STEAM program

The Center for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math at Anoka High School offers the STEAM Certification Pathway for students who want to explore the connections between the arts, sciences, engineering and math while further developing technology and computer skills.

STEAM uses project-based learning and the design thinking model to engage students. The classes in the STEAM program will strengthen students' abilities to be creative and flexible problem solvers, explore different ideas, and communicate well with others. We facilitate a collaborative approach to learning that embraces technology, encourages unique solutions, welcomes creative and inventive thinking as well as problem-solving, to prepare for careers in computer science, the arts, and engineering.

  • The first round of the 2026-27 Magnet School Lottery Application was open until December 17, 2025.

Northwest Suburban Integration School District (NWSISD)

Anoka High School (STEAM) is a NWSISD specialty/magnet school

The Anoka High School Center for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) Program is a Northwest Suburban Integration School District (NWSISD) specialty/magnet program. STEAM is geared for students who are looking to explore the connections between creativity, technology and critical problem-solving skills. Classes use the Design Thinking model to thoroughly engage students through project-based learning and peer collaboration, preparing them for future careers. In addition to the required core, students have elective options in engineering and robotics, drawing, dance, video game design, photography, music, and more.

What is the NWSISD magnet program and how do you enroll?

Magnet schools are public schools of choice, offering comprehensive, high-quality, thematic curriculum intended to attract students from a wide range of racial, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Students who live outside a magnet school’s attendance zone can apply for an opportunity to enroll in the magnet school or program. Entrance into NWSISD magnet schools and programs is application based and open to all students who live within the seven member district boundaries.

NWSISD is a collaborative of seven area school districts in the northwest metro providing schools and communities with a variety of programs and services to promote racial equity and cultural awareness. The seven member districts of NWSISD include Anoka-Hennepin School District, Brooklyn Center Schools, Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose Schools, ISD728 (Elk River | Otsego | Rogers | Zimmerman), Fridley Public Schools, Osseo Area Schools, and Rockford Area Schools.

Priority application registration is open mid-October through end of December with lotteries taking place beginning of January. To learn more about NWSISD, its application timeline and to apply via online application, please visit nws.k12.mn.us.
