Students share their voice and vision for the future with the Minnesota Senate

Students share their voice and vision for the future with the Minnesota Senate

As the Minnesota Senate considers legislation to improve educational outcomes they can refer to the perspectives of two Anoka-Hennepin high school students for inspiration.

Mabel Gauslin, a senior at Anoka High School and Luna Hernandez, a sophomore at Coon Rapids High School were invited to provide testimony to the Minnesota Senate Education Policy Committee along with others from across the state. The students were asked to provide comments regarding what they like about school and that every Minnesota school should have it all in three minutes or less.

Anoka High School’s Mabel Gauslin spoke to the variety of options available at Anoka High School from athletics, to academic co-curricular to rigorous advanced placement and college level courses. She noted the strong network of support and connection from Anoka High School staff that has helped shape her future and
urged legislators to ensure every Minnesota student has that type of support from caring educators.

Luna Hernandez, a sophomore at Coon Rapids High School shared her experience in the Biomedical Sciences and Engineering program and how it is beneficial to her career aspirations following high school. Hernandez also spoke to the importance of school safety and mental health support as a platform for success for every student. View testimony by Luna Hernandez

Participation in the meeting was made possible through the invitation of Sen. Jim Abeler who serves on the committee and whose Senate District 35 represents Anoka and Coon Rapids.
